An employee of a hospital in Massachusetts claimed the $758.7 million winning prize that the Powerball lottery accumulated on Wednesday night’s draw. The lucky Mavis Wanczyk, 53 years old, said she always thought to win the lottery was “a way to achieve dreams.” The lottery winner is a resident of Chicopee, about 90 miles southwest of Boston. The night of the draw, the woman was leaving her job with a firefighter from Chicopee, and they were both talking about Powerball. That’s when she realised she had won. Her colleague decided to take her home to make sure she arrived safely.

The biggest prize won with only one ticket

This is the most significant amount won with just one ticket in the Powerball lottery. In the beginning, the Lottery informed that the ticket was sold in Watertown, Massachusetts, but later it was shown that it wasn’t there but in the Pride Station & Store local, located in Chicopee. In Watertown was also a winner, but of 1 million dollars. Powerball is played in 44 states across the US, in addition to Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and The Virgin Islands.

The $758.7 million price reflects the annuity option paid for 29 years. If a winner wants all cash, they will receive $443.3 million, due to federal and state taxes that carry more than 30% of the price. That was, precisely, what Mavis did. The lady claimed her prize in only one payment, “It was an opportunity that I had to take advantage of” said the lottery winner to the Chicopee newspaper. Mavis L. Wancyk said to the reporters that after hearing the number of the draw, she called to her work to say that she would never come back. “The first thing I want to do is sit down and relax,” said the lottery winner in the news conference.

The numbers of the second biggest Powerball draw in US history were 6, 7, 23 and 26, and the Powerball number was number 4. The owner of the gas station that sold the ticket, Pride Station & Stores, said that the $ 50,000 reward he received for giving the prize would donate them to a charity, according to the BBC.

Wanczyk is getting police protection because winning a prize as big as that, can become risky for the winner. So as a preventive measure the Chicopee police sent patrols to her house.  Mavis said that she wasn’t going to buy a new house or a new car because she already has a beautiful car. And while she will not buy a new vehicle, she will finish paying for her current one. The probabilities of winning the big prize are one in 292.2 million. So, good for her!

Everyone around the town expressed joy for her and we wished her good luck, according to the BBC. We can only imagine how excited she is feeling right now, but don’t get upset, just like her you could be a winner too! You never know. The only way to find out is if you keep playing and don’t give up. Luck is on your side when you least expect it.
